In a week of hefty new entries to the UK charts, Bruno Mars has become the first male solo artist since Mika in 2007 to hold the top spot in both the album and single chart.
Beating off potential competition in the singles chart from Adele and P Diddy’s new group to keep the top spot with “Grenade” while his album, Doo Wops & Hooligans entered the chart at number 1.
The US singer, who also scored a massive hit with Just The Way You Are at the end of 2010, has continued to go from strength to strength and this latest achievement in a time when single sales are based on so much more than releasing a new song.
The last American artist to do the UK double was Akon in 2005.
